Learning norms of science through laughter: a study of humour in life science supervision

We explore how norms of science are given attention through laughter in life doctoral supervision. Four supervision sessions were observed and video recorded. All laugh units identified, instances humour coded relation to science. Our analysis reveals tensions around do valid research, governance vs. administration the willingness make sacrifices.
